10 simple ways to beautify your garden

Posted 10 May 2017

The way you present your garden is just as important as your interior décor, so how can you turn your garden into a showstopper?

Summer is just around the corner, and the welcome arrival of sunshine and warm afternoons means we’ll all be spending more time in the garden, so it should be a space you enjoy. However, you don’t need to spend huge amounts of time, effort and money in order to spruce up your outdoor space. There are simple ways to create a garden you’re guaranteed to fall in love with.

Welcome wildlife with a bird feeder

Not only is a bird feeder a quaint staple of the perfect English garden, but it will help to introduce some wonderful wildlife into your outdoor space too. Fluttering birds and cheery birdsong elevates the mood of any garden, and a bird feeder makes for an attractive feature.

Decorate benches with colourful cushions

Outdoor seating is vital for any successful garden, but unfortunately wooden benches aren’t famous for their comfort or attractive design. An array of colourful comfy cushions can make relaxing outdoors a much more appealing option on a summer’s afternoon.

Make space for a vegetable garden

A vegetable garden is a treat for the eyes and the taste buds! Growing your own produce will save you money on your supermarket shop and will taste fresher than the shop-bought alternative. Plus, it’ll look great in your outdoor space.

Create a DIY awning

If you’ve got a patio that’s a bit of a sun trap, consider yourself lucky – but sometimes a little cooling off in the shade goes down a treat. If you don’t want to waste space with a large parasol, try purchasing a decorative sheet and hanging it above your patio to create a boho-chic awning.

Double your greenery with a corner mirror

Corner mirrors double the amount of greenery you see when looking out onto your garden, and make your garden appear bigger than it actually is. Try surrounding a full-length mirror with ivy or foliage in order to give it that natural, woodland look.

Make the effort to paint the fence

When it comes to sprucing up your garden, sometimes it’s as simple as a fresh coat of paint. Painting your fence will give your garden a new lease of life, especially if you opt for a bright, light colour such as sky blue or a simple white.

Turn your shed into a summer house

Improve your garden by giving your outdoor space an attractive indoor space! If your shed has become a bit of a dumping ground for storage, make the effort to clean it out and turn it into an indoor-outdoor paradise! Lounging chairs, plants, tables and books are all it takes to give yourself a haven to relax in.

Decide on your staple colour

Make your garden stand out by adding pops of colour, and beautify it even more by threading a single shade throughout. Try adding cushions, watering cans, flower pots and ornaments which are all the same dramatic colour. You only need accents of colour to make an impression.

Light up your front garden

Your front garden is just as important as your back garden, and the easiest way to make your home stand out is to introduce lighting. Whether fairy lights or spotlights, you can make your front porch look magical.

Recycle unwanted drawers for flower gardens

This is a great little DIY tip which works a treat. Take an old chest of drawers you’re no longer using and remove the drawers from it. Then flip them upside down, fill them with compost and plant some beautiful flowers to display in your garden. It’s sweet and simple, and you can even paint the drawers to match the rest of your outdoor space.
